dude, wheres my profits?

tom o brien is NOT a successful trader and don't let him fool you.what he is ,is a great salesman. if you took his newsletter recommendations from 2008 and bought equal amounts on each recommendation and used his stop losses and exits you would have lost over 80% of your money.i know because i subscribed and starting using it and stopped and kept getting the newsletter to track the results. IN FACT, at year end he NEVER gives the % gain/loss for his newsletter? someone please call tfnn and ask him what his results were for 2011 using equal dollar amounts on each recommendation.you wont get an answer,but you will get a wiseguy remark.
anyways, i have been trading for over 20yrs,and if you want to make money by far the best way to do it is to sell puts, out of the money,on index etfs (spy/iwm mainly)((NEVER a stock) and collect premium,and if you get assigned then do a cover call on that position to get more premium and get out of the position. ABCP=ALWAYS BE COLLECTING PREMIUM

BTW, i am sure tom o brien is not a bad person. he seems to be a great family man,and a good friend. he is just NOT a successful trader,but is a successful sales person.

Tom's System is unreliable in the short term

Over the short run, Tom's system outlined in the book is nothing short of unreliable...bordering on pathetic. The problem is that he makes short term predictions based on swing points and volume ALL THE TIME, but in the short term he is wrong far too often for someone that is a short term trader. He easily get's it wrong 50-60% of the time. I just don't know how he gets on the show every day and can maintain so much enthusiasm when he is wrong so often. Yes, if you wait long enough he tends to be correct, but gosh if you wait long enough, EVERYONE is correct eventually, and by then you are already stopped out or taking huge losses. For instance, he has been talking about S&P going back to 850 since the S&P was at 1000 (and it is now at 1680.) He is still saying it is going to 850 because that is the last time we had volume there... OK well it may happen in 2020, but in the meantime you lose a fortune and even worse, you lose out on making a ton of money on the upside because you are always looking to go short.

Road to Hell is paved with low Volume

Carnival barker at its Best. The market has moved up 2000 points on "Low Volume".Even small positions,using etfs, getting stopped out ,would have resulted in losses.. As a side note,as promoted in the book, I did turn in to his radio show..like a big 5 hour commercial with many "Stock Experts" hawking their Expensive newsletters,all claiming to make Listeners Money,(but no audited performance records to back it up) including one guy who Predicts Market tops and bottoms Based on a Full Moon in the sky, and a Uranus Planet cycle!
Tom Obrien may be a nice guy, and very smart, my opinion is he is a salesman first. most information here available for free at your local library.
